NEU: An ACI Center of Excellence for Carbon Neutral Concrete introduced its new third-party Validation/Verification Program for the cement and concrete industries. With the increase in product manufacturers and technology development companies trying to position themselves and their products or technology as viable solutions to reduce carbon emissions in the built environment, it is more important than ever that environmental claims are vetted and assessed for their efficacy.
NEU: An ACI Center of Excellence for Carbon Neutral Concrete introduced its new third-party Validation/ Verification Program for the cement and concrete industries. With the increase in product manufacturers and technology development companies trying to position themselves and their products or technology as viable solutions to reduce carbon emissions in the built environment, it is more important than ever that environmental claims are vetted and assessed for their efficacy.
NEU's Validation/Verification Program provides third-party validation or verification of the environmental claims of both existing and innovative new products and technologies associated with reduced carbon cement, concrete production, and concrete products. The process follows International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards and is impartially conducted by subject-matter experts.
To understand the difference between the validation and verification, they are defined as:
Validation: Assessing the reasonableness of the claims, assumptions, limitations, and methods that support an environmental claim and apply to the outcome of future activities.
Verification: Assessing an environmental information claim based on historical data/information to determine whether the statement is materially correct and if it conforms to the verification criteria.
Why use NEU to validate or verify a claim? NEU delivers trusted, proven processes for validating and verifying carbon-reduction claims, helping the industry meet environmental goals with confidence and credibility. The Validation/ Verification Program aligns with NEU's core values of leading the concrete industry in anticipating and adapting to new technologies, practices, and demands. The program also corresponds with NEU's purpose of accelerating the adoption and use of reduced-carbon concrete technologies.
