CELEBRATING composers' major anniversaries can both enhance and blow a reputation; they can be an exploration into unknown territory or reveal limitations. This year's Prokofiev bonanza, for example, has shown the depth and range of his achievement, while last year's Walton centenary brought home to us that with him there was too little to spread around.
