Introduction:
Education is one of the most significant endeavors in the world. To establish a global movement towards "Education for All," the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) assumes leadership in the field of education. In order to address the educational requirements of all children, youth, and adults, UNESCO pioneers this effort. The Indian educational system is specifically created to promote societal advancement. Academic institutions, including universities, have a considerable infrastructure of libraries to support their learning communities with high-quality services. Academic libraries are extremely important to the growth of teaching and learning in any organization's educational system. Libraries typically work together with academic institutions to improve instruction through topic associations and library training initiatives. Academic libraries may be crucial.
ACADEMIC LIBRARY
A smart phone is useless without a sim and just like a library is useless without reading materials so library is the heart of academic institutions. Libraries and education are not mutually exclusive. The focal point of the academic organization's teaching process is thought to be the academic library.
The role of academic libraries in society has expanded as they support the nation's and society's social and economic development as well as the intellectual community. The expansion of Indian postsecondary education is reflected in the academic library. The role of the academic library is to support the system of learning, teaching, and research. The academic library offers helpful services and has a big impact in this field. Historically, academic libraries have been crucial.

ROLE OF ACADEMIC LIBRARIES IN HIGHER EDUCATION
After China and the America, India has the third largest higher education system globally. University Grants Commission is the primary governing organization at the tertiary level; it advises the government, upholds standards, and facilitates coordination between the state and the center. In India, post-independence higher education and library growth has happened far more quickly and qualitatively than it did before. In terms of higher education, college libraries are working to disseminate knowledge to the general public as well as expand digital resources for students, which is an important aspect of the information age.
Academic libraries' duty is to provide suitable information resources and instruction for their use, sufficient to meet the educational, recreational, and research needs of research scholars, students, faculty, and community users through effective material acquisition and organization. Thanks to the new digital resources, the learning community can now access resources on the advancement of information and communication technology at any time and from any location. Orientation is one method the library achieves these goals, particularly for new students. This occurs at the start of the year. The goal is to acquaint newcomers with the quality of services offered by libraries. Orientation is provided to all new students who enroll at the university for the first time.
DR. RADHAKRISHAN COMMISSION (1948-1949)
According to the Dr. Radhakrishnan Commission report, the library is the center of all university activity. This is true both directly for research projects and indirectly for educational initiatives because of scientific studies on library maintenance and use. Prof. S. Radhakrishnan, a renowned educationist and former Indian president, makes this claim.
NATIONAL EDUCATION POLICY (NEP), 1986
The Government of India acknowledged implementation difficulties and accepted responsibility for failing to provide adequate financial and organizational assistance. The new education strategy was created in 1986 to address the weaknesses and make education more effective, knowledgeable, and up to date with new scientific and technological breakthroughs.
In 1986, the government developed a national education policy based on the Kothari Commission Report. It emphasized instruction in regional languages, and the policy was to be revisited every five years. On January 5, 1985, India's Prime Minister committed to develop a new education program to prepare the country for the twenty-first century. Finally, on August 20, 1985, the Indian Parliament was presented with the text Challenge of Education: A Policy Perspective. The paper conducted a survey of the present educational scenario and recommended the next steps. It was heavily chastised for failing to emphasize the importance of libraries. A new paper on New Educational Policy, however, was created and submitted to Parliament in 1986.
NEW EDUCATION POLICY (2020)
On 29 July 2020, the Indian Ministry of Education released the National Education Policy 2020, (NEP 2020). The National Policy on Education from 1986 has been replaced with the new one. The policy offers a useful set of guidelines for basic education, higher education, and vocational training throughout the Indian subcontinent. The aim of the policy is to reform the Indian educational system. NEP 2020 is advisory in nature, and it is up to governments, organizations, and educational institutions to implement it. India's new education system is described as follows in the National Education Policy 2020: "National Education Policy 2020 goals to create an education system that is centered on India and that directly contributes to the supportable revolution of our country into a just and dynamic knowledge society by offering top-notch education to every child."

ACADEMIC LIBRARY SYSTEM
India now has more institutions and students than any other system in the world. After China and the America, it has the third largest student population in the globe for its vast higher education sector. It has recently been determined that investing in the Indian education system is a growing sector. Because of India's low literacy rate, high density of urban areas, and growing per capita income, there is a significant untapped market for the industry in both regulated and unregulated sectors.
Libraries in academic colleges are concerned with the processes of learning and teaching that certain communities go through. The academic library is a library that is a crucial component of an institute, university, or other post-secondary educational institution (higher education) and is run to suit the needs of its teachers, staff, and students in terms of intellectual knowledge and research services. Individual academic departments frequently have their own libraries within large college or university libraries.
ACADEMIC LIBRARIES' ROLE IN COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT
The selection, procurement, accessioning and dissemination of reading materials is called collection development. Academic libraries have both hybrid and digital collections to serve academic organizations. It contains the ideal blend of hybrid content to meet the demands of the academic organization's learning community. The creation of collections is an essential component of any library in order to meet the goals of an academic organization.
Users' evaluative, prescriptive, inventive, comparative, educational, and practical information demands should be met by the library collection. To meet these various demands, the library must create a collection of various sorts and formats. Collection development is an alternate term for collection building that refers to the process of completely creating library collections to support teaching, research, students, and the learning community.
ACADEMIC LIBRARIES IN THE DIGITAL AGE
The academic library in India performs the same functions as academic libraries around the world. Academic libraries in India are working hard to deliver information to the learning community while using limited resources and offering as much information as possible in order to meet the digital document requirement in the information and technology era. The academic library is regarded the heart of the teaching process, and its mission in academic organizations is to assist the education system. As a result, the library plays a significant role in this area and provides valuable services to help the academic institution achieve its goals. The digitalization of reading materials has created new opportunities for teachers, research scholars, and students to provide digital services. The libraries plan for the public's needs and requirements.
FUTURE OF ACADEMIC LIBRARIES
A fascinating new age of problems for library workers has emerged as a result of the transition of university libraries from analog to hybrid to digital. The expectations of librarians have increased as a result of developments in information and communication technologies. The efficiency and effectiveness with which library services are created and offered today determines how well librarians function. Professionals in the fields of library and information science are expected to deliver cutting-edge, high-quality services utilizing the most recent technology, create products for library customers, and permit 24-hour access to the library. The value of digital information literacy abilities is rising as a result of the ongoing proliferation of digital material and information options. Privacy and information protection are crucial components of information security. With the newest gadgets, mobile is increasingly used for downloading.
CONCLUSION
To achieve the objectives of the university, the academic community, especially those at universities, employs library services for teaching, learning, and research. Academic and research activities, as well as teaching and learning, are aided by the academic library. The university library is the hub of the institution's educational system because of its resources and services. The fundamental goals of teaching, learning, and research in the university library might not be achieved. A comprehensive array of relevant library and information resources and services should be provided by resource centers.
In order to meet academic demands and improve the learning and teaching function within the organization for the learning community, library professionals are putting in a lot of effort in a professional manner with researchers, faculty, and students. They are also looking for support from the institution in this regard.
