The aim of this thesis is to introduce the reader to the basic concepts governing risk theory, while providing him with all the necessary resources to acquire a comprehensive knowledge of this specific scientific field. In addition, a detailed application of calculating the degree of risk in selected marine areas of interest is presented, based on sea wave data derived from simulation models.
