Escenarios inclusivos en el álbum ilustrado infantil. Narrativas en entornos urbanos, la naturaleza y la fantasía

Abstract

El álbum ilustrado constituye una herramienta esencial en la lectura infantil debido a la capacidad temprana del niño para seguir la narración a través de las imágenes. Este estudio examina el rol crucial de los escenarios urbanos en el álbum ilustrado contemporáneo, destacando su importancia para transmitir mensajes de inclusión y diversidad. El análisis se centra en una muestra de 55 álbumes publicados en español desde 2016, observando cómo los escenarios reflejan diversas categorías de colectivos desfavorecidos Igualdad de género, Multiculturalismo, Discapacidad, “Lo diferente” y Personas mayores. El estudio revela que, aunque algunos álbumes utilizan fondos blancos para centrar la atención en los personajes, la mayoría incluye escenarios que enriquecen la narración y representan la diversidad. Estos escenarios desempeñan a menudo un papel esencial, ayudando a comunicar estados emocionales, describir entornos y estructurar historias. La fantasía emerge como una herramienta vital para tratar temas complejos y hacer más atractivas las narraciones cotidianas. Los resultados indican que los escenarios urbanos de los álbumes ilustrados reflejan un esfuerzo por representar ciudades inclusivas y sostenibles, aunque todavía existen desafíos en la visibilización de la complejidad cultural y de ciertas discapacidades presentes en la sociedad.

A picture book is an essential tool in early reading because of a child’s ability at an early age to follow narratives through images. This study examines the crucial role of urban settings in contemporary picture books, highlighting their role in promoting inclusion and diversity. The analysis focuses on a sample of 55 picture books published in Spanish since 2016, exploring how the settings reflect various categories of disadvantaged groups Gender equality, Multiculturalism, Disability, “Being different” and Older adults. The study reveals that while some picture books use white backgrounds to emphasize characters, most incorporate settings that enrich the narrative and represent diversity. These settings often play a crucial role in conveying emotional states, describing environments, and structuring stories. Fantasy emerges as a vital tool for addressing complex themes and making everyday narratives more engaging. The findings suggest that the urban settings in these picture books reflect efforts to depict inclusive and sustainable cities, although challenges remain in increasing the visibility of cultural complexity and certain disabilities in society.
