TROTA DE SALERNO: LA QUASIMAGISTER QUE ROMPIÓ LAS BARRERAS ENTRE EL CONOCIMIENTO MÉDICO EMPÍRICO Y LA MEDICINA CULTA

Abstract

Este artículo describe la situación de la medicina en la Edad Media, los cambios ocurridos entre los siglos XI y XII con el nacimiento de la Universidad y el veto a la entrada de mujeres. También aborda el papel de las mujeres a nivel social, como pacientes médicas y como sanadoras, centrándose en este caso en Trota de Salerno. El análisis de contenido sobre la Practica Secundum Trotam y el compendio De curis mulierum ofrece una visión sobre algunos aspectos de su vida profesional, así como la existencia de una comunidad de sanadoras en Salerno.

This article outlines the situation of medicine in the Middle Ages, the changes occurred between the eleventh and twelfth centuries with the birth of the University and the veto on the entry of women. It also draws the role of women at the social level, as medical patient and as healer, focusing in this case on Trota of Salerno. Content analysis about Practica Secundum Trotam and the compendium De curis mulierum gives a glimpse about some facts of her professional life, as well as the existence of a women healers community in Salerno.
