Abstract

El desarrollo de estrategias de afrontamiento y autocuidado en los estudiantes de programas graduados de psicología en Puerto Rico es un aspecto fundamental para su propio bienestar académico y personal. No obstante, es un tema que no ha sido ampliamente explorado. El objetivo principal de este proyecto fue crear un manual que proporcione herramientas prácticas, accesibles y fundamentadas en la evidencia para fomentar el desarrollo práctico de estrategias de afrontamiento y autocuidado en dicho grupo estudiantil. Para su elaboración, se llevó a cabo revisión de literatura con evidencia empírica y de fuentes de información confiables; lo que permitió la identificación de los principales estresores y necesidades de los estudiantes. Se espera que este manual brinde apoyo a los estudiantes para que estos puedan mejorar sus habilidades de manejo de estrés, afrontamiento y autocuidado, contribuyendo a su éxito académico y excelencia en su desempeño laboral. En conclusión, este manual representa una herramienta crucial para apoyar a los estudiantes de psicología de programas graduados en Puerto Rico, promoviendo su bienestar emocional y su preparación profesional.

The development of effective coping and self-care strategies is a critical component of both the academic success and personal well-being of graduate psychology students in Puerto Rico. Despite its importance, this topic remains underexplored in the existing literature. The primary aim of this project was to develop a manual offering practical, accessible, and evidence-based tools to promote the implementation of coping and self-care strategies within this population. The manual was informed by an extensive review of empirical literature and reliable sources, allowing for the identification of the primary stressors and psychological needs experienced by these students. It is anticipated that the manual will serve as a valuable resource to support students in enhancing their stress management, emotional regulation, and self-care practices—ultimately contributing to their academic achievement and professional competence. In summary, this manual represents a significant contribution to the promotion of emotional well-being and professional preparedness among graduate psychology students in Puerto Rico.
