The purpose of this article, which began with a dialogue with authors and with theoretical and critical perspectives that emphasize the importance of considering other modernities and other modernisms, is to comment on and evaluate two works published in Brazil in 2022, the year of the centenary of the Modern Art Week (Semana de Arte Moderna), marked by events that problematized Brazilian modernism and modernist canons, as well as by the investment of publishers in the publication of works of a varied nature (popular works, academic works, literary works, reissues, among others). The two selected publications are Cem anos da Semana de Arte Moderna: o gabinete paulista e a conjuração das janela das janeladas, by Leda Tenório da Motta, and Mulheres Modernistas: Estratégias de Consagração na Arte Brasileira, by Ana Paula Cavalcanti Simioni, texts dedicated to different objects and constructed from different perspectives, characterized by efforts to revise Brazilian modernism and, occasionally, by critical permanences. The aim is, therefore, to debate the proposals outlined in the two works, with the aim of explaining the possibilities (and limitations) of establishing other readings for modernism in Brazil.
