In the period from 2000 to 2014, there has been an increasing number of women incarceration. The world estimate is that there are around 700,000 women in this condition and Brazil ranks the fifth position in the world ranking. This research aims to unveil the relationship between the satisfaction of human needs and the health and social care of female prisoners in Santa Catarina. Considering the conditions served in the national media, it indicates that female prisoners find it difficult to satisfy their needs: such as in their self-care and their families’ care. Human needs are products of social, economic, cultural, technological, religious, philosophical developments, that is, everything that man and woman produced through work and changed with it. Societies, in general, require the distribution of goods and services that ensure qualified well being and social care for their members, and the dilemma of care refers to the weight and importance of all systems (state, market, families, society) in granting this care. The knowledge of how to satisfy them, what are the practices that they perform for the practice of care and care received is relevant This is a qualitative research carried out with seven women in the Florianópolis female prison in the state of Santa Catarina. The methodological procedure used was interview / content analysis. With this research it was found that young women, with children, low education and poor, mostly had as a reason for the imprisonment the involvement with drug trafficking. The family plays a central role for the provision of needs and care. It is concluded that the satisfaction of human needs is fragmented and that the dispensation of care does not follow the same proportions and demands of all women.
