La iconografía del 25 de Abril a través de la fotografía en la prensa portuguesa

Abstract

Durante los primeros días del 25 de Abril el fotoperiodismo portugués fue capaz de plasmar los principales acontecimientos y, al tiempo, forjar una serie de iconos, unidos desde entonces a la historia de la revolución portuguesa. Lo singular del caso portugués es que para representar esos símbolos revolucionarios no hay imágenes únicas, sino diversas formulaciones de un mismo motivo, que se han alternado en el refrendo público según las sucesivas relecturas conmemorativas. Este texto estudia la aparición de esas imágenes fundacionales en el contexto de la prensa de la época, su interpretación de partida y su trasmutación en forma de iconos y mitos cambiantes a lo largo del tiempo.

During the first days of 25 April, Portuguese photojournalism was able to capture the main events and, at the same time, forge a series of icons that have been linked ever since to the history of the Portuguese revolution. What is unique in the Portuguese case is that there are no single images to represent these revolutionary symbols, but rather various formulations of the same motif, which have alternated in public endorsement according to successive commemorative rereadings. This text studies the appearance of these foundational images in the context of the press of the time, their initial interpretation and their transmutation in the form of changing icons and myths over time.
