Abstract

The Baitul A’la Grand Mosque, located in Suka Makmur District, Nagan Raya Regency, Aceh, has its own uniqueness because it uses local jade on its floors, pillars, and interior walls. In addition to providing visual beauty, the use of jade is expected to create comfort and good ventilation for worshippers. Therefore, this study aims to examine the use of jade in the Great Mosque of Baitul A’la, Nagan Raya, in relation to thermal comfort. This study uses a descriptive method by analyzing the Effective Temperature based on field measurements and comparing the U-Value conductivity value between jade and granite. During the seven days of measurement, the average effective temperature recorded was 25.9°C ET, with the lowest temperature reaching 22.1°C ET on November 5, 2023 at 1.30 PM, and the highest temperature reaching 27.2°C ET on the same day at 5.00 PM. The U-Value analysis for jade shows that its conductivity value does not differ significantly from that of granite. Nevertheless, the use of jade still shows good performance in conducting heat inside the mosque. Based on the Effective Temperature criteria according to SNI 03-6572-2001, the Baitul A’la Grand Mosque in Nagan Raya Regency, Aceh, meets the thermal comfort standards with the category of Warm – Comfortable.
