The piezoelectric patch’s location and orientation are important parameters for achieving added damping for a particular mode. The study investigated the de-icing of a rectangular plate with piezoelectric materials actuation. Investigated using Piezoceramic actuators to induce vibration in a host structure so ice can be sheared off. The requirement of shear stress on the aluminium surface for de-icing is 1.5MPa. Due to the adhesive shear stress of ice to be in the range of 0.1-1.5 MPa for aluminium and the Ice layer. At the initial stage, an aluminium plate with inclined PZT 0°, 45° and 90° performed modal and harmonic analysis using CAE software. In harmonic analysis, 30V(0-Pk) voltage was given to PZTs of different orientations and studied shear stress developed along with displacement at the tip at the first four frequencies, mainly 1st torsional frequency. In plates with inclined PZT, proved numerically that at 45° PZT developed more shear stress compared to other orientations of PZT at 1st torsional resonance frequency. Concluded that shear stress developed more at 1st torsional resonance frequency compared to the bending mode.
