Abstract

Las cintas de vídeo y los rollos de películas destacan como objetos fantásticos en el cine de terror, al trascender su función como simples dispositivos reproducibles para convertirse en catalizadores de lo sobrenatural. Esta naturaleza fantástica se ve intensificada por el origen incierto o malintencionado de estas producciones. Así, estas narrativas les otorgan a las obras cinematográficas propiedades mágicas o malditas, transformando a su vez a las pantallas en portales hacia dimensiones inquietantes y peligrosas. Obras comoVideodrome, The Ring, Cigarette Burns, Sinistero Mr. Crocket ejemplifican cómo lo audiovisual deja de ser un vehículo pasivo para cobrar agencia. De este modo, se convierten en amenaza para los personajes y espectadores, quienes se sienten atraídos por su propuesta de disfrute alternativo, pero que acaban sufriendo las consecuencias de su visionado, enlazando así con la teoría de los efectos de los medios de comunicación.

Thus, these narratives imbue the cinematic works with magical or cursed properties, simultaneously transforming the screens into portals to unsettling and dangerous dimensions. Films such as Videodrome, The Ring, Cigarette Burns, Sinister, and Mr. Crocket exemplify how audiovisual media cease to be passive vehicles and instead gain agency. In this way, they become a threat to both characters and viewers, who are drawn to the promise of alternative enjoyment but ultimately suffer the consequences of their viewing, thereby connecting to media effects theory.
