Las ciencias sociales itinerantes: intelectuales brasileños y argentinos en Santiago y Concepción, Chile, 1964-1973 *

Abstract

En este texto presentamos los resultados de investigación de nuestra tesis de posgrado, la cual obtuvo en 2023 el Premio a la Mejor Tesis de Maestría por parte del Instituto Panamericano Geografía e Historia (IPGH). La tesis fue dirigida por el doctor Danny Monsálvez Araneda, y fue defendida el 3 de noviembre de 2021 en la Universidad de Concepción, como requisito para obtener el grado de Magíster en Historia. El objetivo de la investigación fue analizar la presencia de los intelectuales científicos sociales brasileños y argentinos exiliados en las ciudades chilenas de Santiago y Concepción entre 1964 y 1973, considerando el recorrido de sus itinerarios, las redes intelectuales y políticas forjadas y la circulación de ideas propiciada. A través de la aplicación de entrevistas y la consulta de prensa, revistas, documentos institucionales y autobiográficos, argumentamos que, desde los espacios universitarios -la Universidad de Chile, la Universidad Católica y la Universidad de Concepción- los intelectuales brasileños y argentinos exiliados en Chile contribuyeron al proceso de institucionalización de las ciencias sociales, colaborando en la creación de conceptos y teorías, disputando los significados de la actividad científica e internacionalizando el ambiente intelectual de ambas ciudades chilenas. De este modo, utilizando las herramientas de la historia intelectual, nos aproximarnos a la década de 1960 desde una perspectiva distinta, articulando, por un lado, los procesos regionales y nacionales con los continentales, y por otro, centrándonos en las repercusiones de la efervescencia sociopolítica de la época en la vida intelectual de Santiago y Concepción.

In this text we present the research results of our postgraduate thesis, which 1n 2023 was awarded the Prize for the Best Master's Thesis by the Pan American Institure of Geography and History (PAIGH). The thesis was supervised by Dr. Danny Monsálvez Araneda and was defended on November 3%, 2021, at the Universidad de Concepción, obtaining a Master's degree in History. The objective of the research was to analyze the presence of Brazilian and Argentine social scientists intellectuals exiled 1n the Chilean cities of Santiago and Concepción between 1964 and 1973, considering the course of their itineraries, the intellectual and political networks forged and the circulation of ideas they fostered. Through the application of interviews and the consultation of press, magazines, institutional and autobiographical documents, we argue that from the university spaces -the Universidad de Chile, the Universidad Católica and the Universidad de Concepción- the Brazilian and Argentine intellectuals exiled in Chile contributed to the process of institutionalization of the social sciences, collaborating in the creation of concepts and theories, disputing the meanings of scientific activity and internationalizing the intellectual environment of both Chilean cities. Thus, using the tools of intellectual history, we approach the 1960°s from a different perspective, articulating, on one hand, regional and national processes with continental ones, and on the other hand, focusing on the repercussions of the sociopolitical effervescence of the time on the intellectual life of Santiago and Concepción.
