The Edgewood Community Library will soon have upgraded computer technology.
Thanks to a grant program funded by state general obligation bonds and supplemented by the town, the library will get nearly $6,500 worth of new computers and software.
The library computer system is so old, said library volunteer John Suda, that it is running on the DOS operating system.
"If it crashes, we could lose 10 to 13 years of data and records," he said.
For the library to get the state money, Edgewood had to agree to become the fiscal agent, Suda said.
But town councilors decided to go a step further and kick in about $600 in addition to the $5,700 provided by the state to enable the library to immediately purchase the equipment it needs.
The town provides $500 each month to the library for operating expenses.
