In this article | analyze Tzompantli a performance by the artist Deborah Castillo (Caracas, 1971) showed at the Modern Art Museum in Mexico City in April 2024. The aim is to examine the creation process and the communicative actions proposed by the artist as a way to generate an anticolonial narrative of some historical characters still honored today by the hegemonic narratives about the colonization of the Americas. The methodological and theoretical framework articulates tools from the knowledge of Western popular magic, Afro-descendant and indigenous worldviews, Speculative fabulation and Performance studies.
