PATRICIO DEL SACRAMENTO: EL HONORABLE HOMBRE DE COLOR. REDES SOCIALES Y ALIANZAS PARENTALES DE UNA FAMILIA NEGRA EN LA RIOJA, ARGENTINA, SIGLOS XVIII Y XIX

Abstract

En el presente trabajo nos proponemos examinar la trayectoria vital del muestro afroargentino Patricio del Sacramento y su red familiar, conociendo, a través de ella, las condiciones de posibilidad que favorecieron a la movilidad social de esta familia afro, cuyos ancestros fueron esclavos de la Iglesia Matriz. Durante el proceso de pasaje social, desarrollaron diferentes trabajos y estrategias de emparentamiento espiritual canalizadas por el padrinazgo sacramental, estableciendo alianzas significativas con vecinos elitarios y otras familias de origen africano, siendo factores coadyuvantes de su reconvertido estatus adquirido. A partir de esta reconfiguración biográfica, exploramos las trayectorias individuales y con ellas el funcionamiento social de La Rioja durante los siglos XVIII y XIX. Los imperativos de segregación, discriminación y marginalidad continúan sedimentados en jerarquías con base a la raza, la clase y el género. Pese a ello, observamos distintos mecanismos de agenciamiento de sujetos racializados, que pretenden emerger mediante la consolidación de redes afro diaspóricas en una estructura historico-social marcadamente pigmentocrática.

In this paper, we aim to examine the life trajectory of the Afro-Argentinian teacher Patricio del Sacramento and his family network, gaining insight into the conditions that favored the social mobility of this Afro-descendant family, whose ancestors were slaves of the Main Church. During the process of social passage, they developed various occupations and strategies of spiritual kinship channeled through sacramental godparenting, establishing significant alliances with patrician neighbors and other African-descended families, which contributed to their newly acquired status. From this biographical reconfiguration, we explore individual trajectories and, with them, the social dynamics of La Rioja during the 18th and 19th centuries. The imperatives of segregation, discrimination, and marginalization continue to be entrenched in hierarchies based on race, class, and gender. Nevertheless, we observe various mechanisms of agency among racialized individuals, who strive to emerge through the consolidation of Afrodiasporic networks in a markedly pigmentocratic historical-social structure.
