Abstract

This study investigated the perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness of artificial intelligence in the project management process. With the growth of artificial intelligence software, the research studied certified project managers utilizing the software for its impact on overall project efficiency and effectiveness, and their projects’ triple constraints of scope, schedule, and cost. A quantitative, cross-sectional approach was conducted, utilizing Davis’s (1985) technology acceptance model to develop a new model for the study called the technology integration model. The technology acceptance model and technology integration model use the same independent variables of perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness. This study incorporated dependent variables specific to project outcomes as typically identified in their contracts. The study findings indicated that perceived ease of use had a significant positive relationship with overall project efficiency and schedule duration, while perceived usefulness had a significant positive relationship with overall project efficiency. Project managers reported artificial intelligence as easy to use and useful, contributing to the efficiency of managing their projects. As project managers found artificial intelligence easier to use, they spent more time with the artificial intelligence software. Future research could include a comparative study between certified and non-certified project managers, utilization of the technology integration model, or a longitudinal study to gain insight into the continually changing and competitive landscape of artificial intelligence in project management.
