Stars lose their twinkle
Album release: Hear'Say Everybody
It's difficult enough to maintain an interest in frothy pop acts, but when a band such as Hear'Say originally had such unprecedented hype surrounding them and now have next to none, it's almost impossible to care whether they can muster up another hit or if they end up working in Butlin's.
It's been a while since Kym, Suzanne, Myleene, Noel and Danny were proverbially rammed down our throats and for that we can only be grateful. The word overkill could have been invented for them.
Now on their second album in the space of a year, the mid-week sales for Everybody can best be described as dismal and it seems that the Pop Stars' star is in the descendant.
There could be a number of reasons for this. Perhaps the pre- pubescents who originally helped the pop puppets to break music industry records have now shifted their attentions to the new Pop Idol series. Maybe it is because the boy and girl-next-door types who make up Hear'Say lack the star quality to be a proper pop band or perhaps there are just too many boy/girl bands for teenagers to split their pocket money between.
In truth, Everybody is slightly better than Hear'Say's first album, sounding less like a collection of re-hashed old pop songs and more like a proper album. But bettering the first album contents- wise is not a difficult task.
The album kicks off with the first single and title track Everybody, an uptempo, feel good song for the kiddies to enjoy. It's inoffensive fun which should ensure a respectable enough hit, if not a number one. Unfortunately the opening track is one...
