Abstract

The purpose of this research was to analyze the psychological impacts of racism and highlight the importance of anti-racist practices in schools in Guanambi, Bahia, in the context of Elementary School. The methodology adopted in this study was Barbier's (2004) action research, which presupposes collaborative planning with the groups and subjects involved in all stages of the research. The observations were complemented by interviews, workshops with the children and adults involved, in addition to the researcher's itinerary diary. For data analysis, Bardin's (1977) content analysis was used. In this evaluation stage, it was found that the racial issue has a psychological impact on both children and the school community itself. In this work, the school community was considered to be all people who work directly with the child, including family members, managers, teachers, support professionals, and the school board. In other words, everyone who is part of this environment shares responsibility for the child's well-being and development. Furthermore, it was noted that, although children have self-esteem, the mechanisms of racism affect them objectively, leading them to recognize the psychological impacts of this violence at an early age. On the other hand, it was observed how much teachers with racial literacy who develop anti-racist work and actions make a difference in the daily school routine, carrying out valuable work. With a focus on this theme, a Technical Product and Educational Process (PTPE) was created entitled "Fayola and Dayo: Blackness as a Power". This is a children's and young adult book that was carefully organized, highlighting the achievements of black people in the arts, sports, sciences and academic life, among other fields. The objective of the PTPE was to value ancestral memory as a symbol of resistance and reaffirm our existence and achievements.
