Revisitando a Fitzgerald: Propuesta de reescritura y análisis comparativo de tres traducciones al español de the great Gatsby desde una perspectiva feminista

Abstract

Esta tesis tiene como objetivo proponer una reescritura feminista de fragmentos de El Gran Gatsby de F. Scott Fitzgerald, aplicando una o más de las estrategias propuestas por Luise von Flotow (1991). La presente investigación se centra en un análisis de la representación de los personajes femeninos en la obra original, publicada en 1925, con tres de sus traducciones al español. El enfoque se centra en diez fragmentos seleccionados que reflejan momentos clave de connotación negativa en la representación femenina presente en la narrativa. A través de este análisis, el estudio indaga cómo las decisiones de traducción influyen en la construcción de los roles de género y cómo estas pueden perpetuar o cuestionar ideologías patriarcales. Esta investigación destaca el potencial de la traducción feminista para abordar los sesgos presentes en el texto de partida y propone una reescritura feminista de algunos fragmentos como una forma de intervención literaria y cultural. Esta reescritura busca visibilizar perspectivas ignoradas, desafiar estereotipos de género y ofrecer una interpretación renovada que se alinee con los discursos feministas contemporáneos. El centenario de la novela en 2025 añade relevancia a esta investigación, al brindar la oportunidad de reevaluar sus temas a la luz de normas ociales cambiantes. Al explorar la intersección entre la teoría feminista y los estudios de traducción, esta tesis contribuye a debates más amplios sobre la ética de la traducción literaria, el rol de los traductores como mediadores culturales y la importancia de los enfoques feministas en la reinterpretación de obras canónicas.

This thesis seeks to propose a feminist rewriting of excerpts from The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, applying one or more strategies outlined by Luise von Flotow (1991). The research focuses on an analysis of the portrayal of female characters in the original work, published in 1925, and on three of its Spanish translations. The focus is placed on ten carefully selected excerpts that showcase key moments of negative female representation in the narrative. Through this analysis, the study investigates the ways in which translation choices impact the construction of gender roles and how these choices can perpetuate or challenge patriarchal ideologies. The thesis emphasizes the potential of feminist translation to address biases in the text and presents a feminist rewriting of the excerpts as a form of literary and cultural intervention. This rewriting draws attention to overlooked perspectives, challenges gender stereotypes, and offers a fresh interpretation that aligns with contemporary feminist discourse. The novel’s centenary in 2025 adds relevance to this research, providing an opportunity to reevaluate its themes in light of changing societal norms. By exploring the intersection of feminist theory and translation studies, this thesis contributes to broader discussions on the ethics of literary translation, the role of translators as cultural mediators, and the importance of feminist approaches in reinterpreting canonical works.
