'ALL About My Dog (Inu no Eiga)' is a good movie for all even if you're
not a dog lover.
The film is a collection of eight short stories about dogs that
sometimes connect with each other.
Directed by seven different directors from Japan - Isshin Inudo, Yoshio
Kuroda, Tetsuhisa Nezu, Hideki Kuroda, Akira Nagai and Atsushi Sanada -
it gives a sushi-sized taste of the many styles and approaches as to how
to present the ultimate dog movie.
There's cel and stop-motion animations, a semi-musical, a talking dog
story about puppy love, a straightforward drama, an existential
self-searching piece and even a music video.
This is no Lassie Come Home, for sure!
The human hero of the story is popular Japanese actor Shidou Nakamura,
who is joined by a lineup of young rising stars, including Misaki Ito,
Aoi Miyazaki and Manami Konishi.
In addition, from the ranks of established actors come Yuki Amami, Eiji
Kawahira and Katsumi Takahashi, all of whom offer us a completely new
slant on their talents. The beginning pieces are nicely absurd and funny,
opening up the audience's hearts...
