EVERYTHING about The Jerwood sculpture prize says 'Big'. Big money - 20,000 pounds. Big sculpture - a large-scale piece to be placed in the Jerwood Sculpture park at Witley Court in Worcestershire. Big ideals, of course. Everything, that is, apart from the show. In the absence of a bottle labelled 'drink me', think yourself small. What we have are eight maquettes - scale models of the finished works. It's an old device, designed to reduce cost. The problem is that so few of the eight finalists have anticipated the end product. Indeed two of the pieces are actually better here than they would be if fully realised.
Four artists seem to have understood the idea. Richard Trupp's menacingly brutal Plug would certainly have an impact...
