In September, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit ordered that Shira Perlmutter will remain the register of copyrights and the director of the U.S. Copyright Office, despite the current administration s efforts to remove her. Perlmutter has maintained that the administrations efforts to fire and replace her are illegal, and that the White House action coincided with the Copyright Offices release of a prepublication report about generative Al training, a Publishers Weekly article states. In regard to the separation of powers, the judges said the Presidents removal of Perlmutter was likely unlawful because the librarian of Congress-appointed by the president and approved by the Senate-is the only individual authorized to appoint or remove the

Delivers Survey Data IMLS released its latest Public Libraries Survey, which shows that public libraries are one of the most valued and utilized American institutions. With more than 800 million visits and millions of programs offered, along with a steady increase in physical and digital circulation, libraries are demonstrating their enduring relevance, importance, and reach in communities. For the report, IMLS gathered data from roughly 9,000 public library systems, comprising more than 17,000 main libraries, library branches, and bookmobiles in the 50 states, the District
of Columbia, and U.S. territories. The reports data shows, in part, that public libraries served more than 155 million registered users in 2023, library visits almost doubled in comparison to 2021 (more than 800 million in 2023), digital access continues to expand, and libraries are
broadening their programming offerings substantially.

Talis completely integrates with a library system to facilitate course resourcing, copyright compliance, and acquisitions.
