Peter Haigh, broadcaster
Born: 28 July, 1925, in London Died: 28 January, 2001, in Portugal, aged 75
PETER Haigh was the epitome of Fifties elegance when he entered public life as an announcer on television. Seated in his dinner jacket, immaculate bow-tie and with his suave manner, he represented everything that the BBC was about. He was relaxed, sophisticated and calm - even when the cameras didn't work and (yet again) the potter's wheel was about to come into focus.
Haigh had a second very successful career as the presenter of Picture Parade , one of TV's first regular weekly programmes. His considerable knowledge of movies made him ideal for the job and it allowed him to interview some of the great Hollywood names of the era.
