Fun for all the family
IN ITS post-war hey-day, British holidaymakers flocked to the camps in their millions. For two weeks in the summer, work was forgotten in favour of cabaret shows and bonny baby contests.
From its humble beginnings in 1936, in a turnip field in the fishing town of Skegness, Butlins peaked in popularity in the 1960s with nine thriving seaside resorts - a success story based on all that was wholesome and fun about the great British family holiday.
