O Corpo e o Político: O Trabalho Sexual Como Uma Questão Política

Abstract

O trabalho sexual é um tópico, por vezes, esquecido dentro dos debates filosóficos e políticos. No entanto, é um tema envolvido em várias questões. Questões estas que se debruçam sobre o corpo, o trabalho, a moral, o sexo e a sexualidade. Debruçarmo-nos sobre o trabalho sexual permite-nos refletir sobre estes aspetos, como estes afetam os mecanismos de governação dos indivíduos e que efeitos isto provoca na nossa consciência, individual e social, do que é o “normal”.

O objetivo final desta dissertação será procurar uma resposta à pergunta: “Serão os tabus e os estigmas associados ao trabalho sexual politicamente legítimos?”. Para tal, será necessário desenvolver, privilegiando a perspetiva da biopolítica, uma análise dos mecanismos de regulação que se aplicam especificamente ao trabalho e ao sexo dos indivíduos. A questão da “sexopolítica” será explorada, em particular, para compreender, de modo mais aprofundado, a relação entre a regulação dos corpos e o sexo. Por último, recorremos a um exemplo, o da prostituição, para explorar em concreto a abordagem exposta.

Será possível concluir a viabilidade do trabalho sexual, ao compreender as semelhanças com os restantes trabalhos físicos, o que nos permitirá explorar políticas que garantam a dignidade, a autonomia e os direitos deste grupo de trabalhadores, que são estigmatizados e marginalizados.

Sexual labour is a topic, sometimes, forgotten in philosophical and political debates. However, it is a theme surrounded by various questions. Such questions dwell about the body, labour, morals, sex and sexuality, thus, allowing us to reflect on these aspects, how they affect the governance mechanisms of individuals, and which effects this provokes on our individual and social conscience of what is “normal”.

The final objective of this dissertation is to seek an answer to the question: “Are the taboos and the stigmas associated with sexual labour politically legitimate?”. To achieve this end, it will be necessary to develop (while privileging the standpoint of biopolitics) an analysis of the mechanisms of regulation that are applied specifically to the work and sex of the individuals. The question of “sexopolitics” will be explored, in particular, to understand, in a more profound manner, the relation between the bodies and the sex. Lastly, we turn to an example, prostitution, to explore in a precise scenario the discussed theory.

It will be possible to conclude the viability of sexual labour, when comprehending its similarities with the remaining physical labours. This will allow us to explore politics that ensure the dignity, the autonomy and the rights of this group of workers, who are stigmatized and marginalized.
