The Frame Narrative technique is a staple of literature worldwide. Established millennia ago, in fables and tales, these “stories within stories” have evolved into the present day, preserving tradition while adapting to the needs of the modern reader. Nonetheless, its study is scarce and scattered. The present work aims to propose a space for debate on this ancient technique, reinvented by 21st century authors. In Gothic Literature, the Frame Narrative saw the birth of the genre, hence attesting the long date connection between genre and technique. These narratives, with detailed and complex structuring, which reflects on multilayered characters and intricately explored themes, expand beyond literature, into formats like cinema and videogames. Its existence attests to the pertinence of the Frame Narrative, in a digital time that craves originality and emotion.
