The theme of this research is the construction of discourse around earthen architecture in Brazil and its influence on the use of traditional pau-a-pique and taipa de pilão techniques. These discourses sometimes express hygienist, socialist, modernist and economic visions that change according to time and place.
In this research, we seek to explain the formation of discourse around earthen architecture throughout the 20th and 21th centuries in Brazil, and to highlight the extent to which these discourses have been able to impact on the practice of techniques, in the process of enhancing this little-known heritage.
