Pauline Thought on Fatherhood in the New Testament Church

Abstract

What theological, doctrinal, and cultural sources defined Paul's thinking about fatherhood and fatherly care and his role as a spiritual father in the New Testament church? The study presents the concept of fatherhood and its respective role in the different cultures of the Ancient Near East, that may have influenced Paul's thinking about fatherhood. In turn, the author presents that understanding the paternal metaphors used by the apostle Paul are essential to understanding his thinking about fatherhood and paternal care in a more coherent way not only in the context of the New Testament church but also for the contemporary church with its respective implications and applications.

¿Qué fuentes teológicas, doctrinales y culturales definieron el pensamiento sobre la paternidad y el cuidado paternal de Pablo y su rol como padre espiritual en la iglesia neotestamentaria? El estudio presenta el concepto de paternidad y su respectivo rol en las diferentes culturas del antiguo cercano oriente, que pudieron influenciar en el pensamiento de Pablo sobre la paternidad. A su vez, el autor presenta que entender las metáforas paternales utilizadas por el apóstol Pablo es esencial para comprender su pensamiento sobre la paternidad y el cuidado paternal de manera más coherente, no sólo en el contexto de la iglesia neotestamentaria sino también para la iglesia contemporánea, con sus respectivas implicaciones y aplicaciones.
