Abstract

The article explores the concept of the desert in Nietzsche as an ambivalent metaphor, associated not only with nihilistic desolation but also with a necessary condition for transformation and creation of new values. Taking up in particular the suggestion of the third dissertation of On the Genealogy of Morality, it is hypothesized that Nietzsche, in illustrating the solitude and asceticism represented by the desert, refers to himself and his own biography, considering this experience as a test for transcending ressentiment and realising his own authenticity, both philosophical and existential.
