De virtudes, reyes de armas y tratados de nobleza en el siglo XVIII: las ediciones de tratados de nobleza como polémica sobre la virtud

Abstract

El trabajo que aquí presentamos es un acercamiento teórico al debate sobre la nobleza y sus valores durante el siglo XVIII. Se toma como origen de la polémica el conflicto entre continuidad y discontinuidad en el concepto de nobleza para intentar evidenciar cómo lo nobiliario representó, durante el siglo ilustrado, una forma de tradición y de renovación, al poner el foco en un concepto como el de utilidad social en los valores propios del grupo noble. Analizamos la recepción de obras del siglo XVI y XVII que se volvieron a imprimir en el XVIII y la continuidad de las prácticas de los oficiales heráldicos entre los siglos XVII y XVIII.

The work presented here is a theoretical approach to the debate on nobility and its values during the eighteenth century. We take as the origin of the controversy the conflict between continuity and discontinuity in the concept of nobility to try to show how the nobility represented, during the enlightened century, a form of tradition and renewal, by focusing on a concept such as the social utility of the values of the noble group. The reception of works from the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries that were reprinted in the eighteenth century and the continuity of the practices of heraldic officials between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries are analyzed.
