Abstract

Alternate abstract:

José Álvarez de Toledo, 11th Marquis of Villafranca, is linked to the first-class Grandeur of Spain and his figure is associated with the 13th Duchess of Alba, whom he married in 1775. Despite being a prominent figure at court and in fin-de-siècle politics, little is known about him. Thus, the aim of this study is to elucidate his nobiliary identity on the basis of his representational practices, as well as pictorial ekphrasis and hypotypes.
