Abstract

Conference Title: 2025 Second International Conference on Intelligent Technologies for Sustainable Electric and Communications Systems (iTech SECOM)

Conference Start Date: 2025 Oct. 9

Conference End Date: 2025 Oct. 10

Conference Location: Coimbatore, India

The goal of this project is to design and develop a smart wheelchair that will increase the mobility and independence of people with physical disabilities. Through a specialized mobile application, the system combines voice control and joystick functions, offering users with varying degrees of mobility impairments versatility. The ESP8266 microcontroller, renowned for its wireless capabilities and small size, enables Wi-Fi communication between the wheelchair and mobile device. People with less strength or mobility may find it difficult to use traditional manual wheelchairs because they require a lot of physical effort. Furthermore, many electric wheelchairs have intricate control systems that not everyone can use or access. In order to overcome these constraints, this project provides an affordable, dependable, and user-friendly substitute that enables users to move more confidently and easily through their surroundings. A DC-to-DC step-down converter provides the 5 V required for the microcontroller and electronics, while a 24 V 30 AH lithiumion battery powers the system. The wheelchair can move in four directions: forward, backward, left, and right, depending on the user's commands processed by the mobile app. For users with restricted hand mobility, the voice control feature makes it accessible, while for others, the joystick provides an easy-to-use control option. This smart wheelchair system is the perfect answer for practical assistive applications because it puts user safety, dependability, and affordability first. The user and the wheelchair can move and interact seamlessly thanks to the combination of hardware and software components.
