Abstract

The article offers a critical evaluation of Latin American structuralism through the reading undertaken by Cristóbal Kay in his last book: Pensadores rebeldes [Rebellious Thinkers]. Simultaneously, I highlight the evolution of the surplus categories engendered in the region, as well as the disequilibrium at the level of the categories in question. The assessment implies transcending and transforming the perspective. Inadvertently, the surplus categories emerge from the pen of two Anglo-Saxon authors as a backup for the decolonial task, as it is said nowadays, although unbeknownst to them and perhaps even to the commentator of the book himself. Through the concept of "possession-in-separation" of the conditions of existence of the agents, I highlight an alternative to reflect on the social relations and potential strategies for their reform; this implies assuming whole heartedly the social and political consequences of the notion of heterogeneity freed from its technological connotations.
