Abstract

According to the latest figures published by the Council of Europe, 167′000 organ transplants were performed worldwide in 2024, as reported to the Global Observatory on Organ Donation and Transplantation [5]. In addition to saving lives, organ transplantation has the potential to improve quality of life [17,18] and there is clear and sustained evidence that kidney transplantation is the most cost-effective therapeutic option for end-stage kidney disease, which actualy saves money to healthcare systems compared to dialysis [19]. 2.MahJJohnston-WebberCPrionasARomagnoliJStreitSWhartonGHow to Structure a Successful Organ Donation and Transplantation System in Eight (Not so Easy) Steps: An Italian Case Study.Transpl Int(2023)36:11010.10.3389/ti.2023.1101037359826 3.Johnston-WebberCMahJPrionasAStreitSWhartonGForsytheJSolid Organ Donation and Transplantation in the United Kingdom: Good Governance Is Key to Success.Transpl Int(2023)36:11012.10.3389/ti.2023.1101237305339 4.ReesKMclaughlinLParedes-ZapataDMillerCMaysNNoyesJ.Qualitative Content and Discourse Analysis Comparing the Current Consent Systems for Deceased Organ Donation in Spain and England.Transpl Int(2024)37:12533.10.3389/ti.2024.1253339027155 5.European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines & HealthCare.EDQM.
