MINISTERS yesterday finally approved FirstGroup's #110m takeover of Strathclyde Buses parent company, SB Holdings.
The Department of Trade and Industry said FirstGroup would have to accept "behavioural undertakings" guaranteeing limits on fare increases and changes in the frequency of services.
The announcement is a softer approach compared to that of the Tories, who first dealt with the situation two years ago.
FirstGroup acquired SB Holdings in 1996, but the move was referred to the Monopolies and Mergers Commission after claims that the company would enjoy a virtual monopoly of bus services in the West of Scotland.
