She stands just 5-4 and still manages to tower over her sport. After all, she is the only U.S. woman to win gold medals in consecutive Winter Olympics.
But she claims not to be obsessed with a three-peat as February and the Lillehammer Games approach. The question for Bonnie Blair, at age 29, is basic: Is there anything left to accomplish in the world of long- track speed skating?
Her haul of four medals three gold, one bronze in the last two Olympics is a dazzling feat. Blair, however, isn't putting any great expectations on herself for 1994.
"Coming away from '88, a gold and a bronze, and '92, two golds, I definitely can't top that," Blair said at a news conference Thursday at the Pettit National Ice Center. "If I could come within the top three at the Olympics, that's going to be satisfaction for me.
"I still enjoy what I'm doing, and I love the lifestyle. I wasn't ready to give it up after 1992."
