Madonna "The Immaculate Collection" Sire
This could have been the only truly essential Madonna album. It is a sampling of the Boy Toy's hits from the early 1980s to the present, a reaffirmation of the singer's status as the best singles artist of the Reagan era. In addition, the compilation features two new songs, including the Lenny Kravitz-produced single "Justify My Love," now more famous as the video that MTV banned.
For some fans, however, "The Immaculate Collection" is bound to seem a tad too immaculate. It excludes hits such as "Angel," "Dress You Up," "Who's That Girl," "Causing a Commotion" and "Keep It Together," not to mention anything from her most recent album, "I'm Breathless." By omitting some of Madonna's best songs, the album fails to accurately document the singer's evolution from mediocre dance-floor diva to extraordinary hit-maker.
