Jenny Hamilton, 75
SMOG plagued London until the introduction of clean air laws.
On December 5, 1952, it became so bad that people began dying because they couldn't breathe. Over four days 4,000 died.
Jenny Hamilton, now 75 and living in Wimbledon, London was in charge of sending out ambulances - many of which failed to arrive. This is her story:
