The most important vote this year in the United States Senate will take place on the question of President Reagan's nomination of Robert Bork to the Supreme Court. Bork has been a lifelong opponent of civil rights, and he does not deserve a lifetime seat on the Supreme Court -- and so I urge you to join me in actively opposing the nomination.
Bork is a radical activist dedicated to undoing settled constitutional law in pursuit of his own reactionary vision of our society. In his 25 years of public life, he has worked tirelessly against justice and progress.
During the debate on the great Public Accommodations provisions of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Bork sided with the right of owners of segregated lunch counters to engage in racial discrimination, instead of defending the right of millions of our fellow citizens to be free from discrimination.
