A COMMUNITY radio station is aiming to become a training ground for creative talent for people in one of the most economically deprived regions of Wales.
BRfm (Brynmawr Radio FM) is the latest community station in Wales to be granted a five-year licence by industry regulator Ofcom.
Established in 2004 by the current mayor of Brynmawr Robert Ball, the station had its first application rejected. However, after approval of its second application, BRfm could start broadcasting as earlier as August - even though under the terms of the licence it has up to two years to launch.
The station, which has previously broadcast for three one-month periods under restrictive service licence status, is being supported by volunteers, including production staff and presenters.
The station has a transmission remit for Brynmawr and the wider Blaenau Gwent area.
