The contract was awarded to Carillion Canada of Etobicoke, which began construction in 2003. The work included widening the highway to four lanes, as well as building two new interchanges and six new bridges.
The announcement follows the Aug. 30 release of the Northern Ontario Highways Strategy, a five-year strategic plan to invest $1.8 billion for highway expansion in Northern Ontario.
