MICHAEL Schumacher paced a Ferrari one-two finish yesterday and won his third consecutive Japanese Grand Prix to cap 2002 with his 11th triumph of the Formula One season.
The five-time world champion started from pole position and covered the 53 laps of the 5.821km Suzuka circuit in 1h26m59.91s to secure a podium finish for every race of the year.
Rubens Barrichello, who led for a lap when teammate Schumacher made a pitstop, was half a second behind in second place, securing Ferrari's ninth one-two finish of the season and a one-two finish in the drivers' standings.
McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen placed third and Juan Pablo Montoya was fourth in a Williams, clinching third place in the 2002 drivers' standings.
Japan's Takuma Sato claimed fifth place to rousing cheers from the local crowd and finished a lap ahead of sixth place Jenson Button in a Renault.
