WHEN Brisbane author Marianne Delacourt steps on to a plane, her nerves always get the better of her.
Imagine then, searching for a decent book to read - something light, funny and distracting along the lines of Janet Evanovich's comic Stephanie Plum series - and coming up with nothing.
This motivated the 48-year-old science fiction writer to create a character and series based around a Perth-based wisecracking private investigator.
Throw in Tara Sharp's paranormal abilities and you have Sharp Shooter.
"I'm a very nervous flyer," Delacourt says. "The only type of book I can read when flying, to distract me, is humour crime. I couldn't find enough of it in the marketplace."
