TAXPAYERS have funded enough travel for jet-setting Liberal Senator Margaret Reid to send her to the moon and back.
During her six years in charge of the Senate, Senator Reid took more than $345,000 in publicly funded travel.
The former Senate president has made 26 overseas trips since 1996, staying in luxurious accommodation and enjoying sumptuous lunches and dinners.
Senator Reid's trips took her to some of the world's classiest hotels including the Hyatt Carlton Tower in London and the Waldorf Astoria in New York.
Limousine hire, flowers and even the cost of a violinist for a function were all billed to the public purse.
She flew 691,000km -- taxpayer-funded -- as Senate president. As the moon is about 385,000 km from earth, this would take her all the way there and four-fifths of the way back.
