ROSEMARY Neill, arts editor of The Australian, has been short- listed for this year's $20,000 NSW Premier's nonfiction award for her book White Out, an account of how politics is killing black Australia.
The judges describe the book, published by Allen & Unwin, as "iconoclastic, wide-ranging, convincing and readable -- a genuinely new contribution to a debate in which, as Neill says, the observance of taboos can sometimes be more important than recognising complex truths".
