Most of us are grateful for the job ambulance officers do but it's only when you really need one and they suddenly appear that you properly understand what heroes they are.
It might be a person hit by a car.
Panic, confusion and shock takes over but the ambos invariably bring calm and cohesion to the scene as they zero in on the injuries and stabilise the injured pedestrian.
They make you feel safe when you are at your most vulnerable and that situation arises in myriad ways. Which makes their working life fascinating. It's one Sydney filmmaker and TV commercial director Guy Mansfield felt had not been told, despite observational documentaries - once called fly-on-the-wall docos - currently being one...
