Matt Lucas enjoyed playing Mr Toad so much that he wants to write a sequel to The Wind In The Willows, a book that has charmed and ignited the imaginations of generations of children.
The star of Little Britain is accustomed to creating the characters he plays on screen, but he says performing someone else's material is always an exciting change of pace from his work on the cult comedy series.
Lucas says Little Britain - which he co-created with David Walliams - affords him the luxury of developing his characters over the course of each new series. So playing Toad for a BBC- commissioned telemovie - Lee Hall's adaptation of Kenneth Grahame's popular book - left him hungry for more and wishing it could be made into a series.
"I didn't feel as though I was finished with him," he says.
" I am used to really hammering a character into the ground.
