HAVING called off this game because of rain the previous night when it was scheduled in Albury, Essendon and Richmond officials must have contemplated making the same drastic decision when they arrived for take two at Sandringham Oval yesterday.
Wind was tearing off a wild Port Phillip Bay and the rain was spearing into them from all angles.
But this time they decided to brave the elements, with Essendon slogging its way to its first win since last year's Grand Final.
The hastily arranged match will not be remembered by many of the 500 or so people who watched it, but respective coaches Kevin Sheedy and Danny Frawley said the standard was not an issue and that the match practice was crucial.
